Standard yoga mats are commonly made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a plastic that releases chemicals into the environment during both production and use. When heated during yoga practice, PVC mats emit harmful chemicals — known human carcinogens when exposed through inhalation and contact. Conventional yoga mats are not biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to decompose. 

Hartwick Atelier’s range of sustainable yoga mats are handwoven by master weavers using handspun natural cotton, and quilted for softness and durability. 

The Ayurvedic Edition embodies the principles of Ayurveda; whereby the properties of the plants used in the natural dye are being absorbed by the skin. Indigo, Turmeric, and Marigold editions each offer a unique set of properties that contribute to human health.
